Living in suburban northern New Jersey certainly has its benefits. The beautiful wooded areas, lakes and ponds combined with the close proximity to the mountains, the shore and the metropolitan NY area surely makes it unique and a wonderful place to live. But all this beauty and convenience also comes with a few challenges (besides the traffic)...bugs!

And in Jersey, we have 'em. Specifically, I am referring to mosquitoes and ticks. Although I love spending time outdoors with my family when the weather allows, I HATE being bit by mosquitoes or finding a tick on one of us. I can't tell you how many times we were driven inside after planning an outdoor dinner or party – even when using citronella candles, tiki torches and bug zappers!

But aside from being a nuisance, ticks and mosquitoes can also transmit disease. Personally, the one that has wreaked havoc in my home is Lyme disease. As we all know, Lyme disease is carried by the dreaded deer tick and my home was no exception. My daughter was diagnosed with Lyme disease. Both of my dogs were diagnosed with Lyme disease. I was diagnosed with Lyme disease.

These diagnoses came after implementing many of the recommended precautions, like long sleeves and bug spray, to prevent the bites in the first place! I was angry and I wanted my backyard back. So, I did what most moms do, I started to do some research about mosquito and tick control to reduce my family's and pets' risk of becoming infected.

I joined forces with industry experts. We trialed, tested, and reformulated. We learned so many people were struggling with protecting their families as well. At first, we just protected our own yard. And then our neighbors asked, so we helped them. And then friends asked, so we helped them. And then friends of friends... you get the picture. Out of these grassroots, Backyard Bug Busters was born.
